Welcome to the 9+ Mile Ramblers.
We are a group of around twenty keen walkers who enjoy exploring the countryside. Not everyone joins us every month, but there is always a mix of familiar faces and new conversations.
Our walks are typically 8 -10 miles long and take place on the third Tuesday of each month, come rain or shine (unless the weather is truly awful). We meet at 9:45am for a briefing, then head off at 10am.
Whilst we often walk locally, we also enjoy venturing further afield, sometimes up to 30 - 45 minutes away by car. Car sharing is encouraged.
Everyone is encouraged to plan and lead walks. We enjoy seeing the variety of routes and scenery that different members bring. Some walks may include longer or steeper climbs, but the walk leader will identify this in advance so you can decide if the walk is one for you.
We ask that members have a reasonable level of fitness, wear suitable footwear and clothing, and pack for our unpredictable English weather. A flask, a snack for a coffee stop and a packed lunch are ideal. We usually stop for a picnic in a scenic location rather than visiting cafés or pubs. This allows us more freedom in where we walk. However, our November walk is shorter and is followed by a pub lunch to celebrate the season together.
Safety is important to us. Each route is pre-walked by the person who has planned and will lead the walk to check for any hazards and ensure it is suitable for the group. A U3A Risk Assessment Form is completed. Ideally, two members do the recce together, so that if the walk leader unexpectedly can’t make it, the walk can still go ahead smoothly.
Otherwise, Group members are responsible for their own health and safety and the safekeeping of their equipment, clothing and other belongings.
Please note that, in line with other Haslemere U3A walking groups, dogs are not included on our walks - just to keep things safe and simple for everyone.
There is no fee to join us. We’d be delighted to welcome you on our next adventure.
Start time: 9:45am for a pre walk briefing.
