Basic LifeSupport Training course

The Basic Life Support Training course is an introduction to First Aid.    It will be held on the 14th November 2025, at the Methodist Church in Weyhill, Haslemere.

The duration of the course is two hours, from 2.00-4.00pm.   There will be no charge for members.  If you are interested in joining it, please contact Hilda Russell through the webpage link above.

Previous First Aid courses held with the U3A have covered Basic Life Support.  However many conditions not potentially life threatening may require First Aid assistance.  It is therefore planned, for those who have attended a Basic Life Support course, to teach them in such conditions.  The next course will be Scheduled later, it will be from 2.00-4.00pm, in the Methodist Church in Weyhill.  Please contact Hilda Russell if you wish to attend. First Aid training – dealing with acute non-lethal medical conditions

This course is aimed at those who hold an Adult Basic Life Support Training certificate, and are expert in dealing with the potentially fatal conditions of

          Cardiac arrest

          Choking

          Anaphylaxis

          Massive haemorrhage

Other conditions which are not always potentially fatal but may need expert first aid support before the medical or paramedical services arrive, will be discussed.

This course will cover:

The common medical emergencies that a first aider may be expected to  manage

How to diagnose acute medical emergencies at the scene

Assessment of the patient(s) and prioritisation

Emergency treatment of conditions including correct management, to control symptoms, to prevent deterioration, and when to recommend onward referral

Communication including when, and when not, to take charge or take over.
