The World History group is a self- learning self- teaching group where each member of the group prepares
a discussion paper which they then present to the group for an hour and then there is an hour’s discussion on the paper.

We agree each term which part of the world we are going to explore and people select what they would like to research and discuss.

We come from a variety of backgrounds. No one to my knowledge is a professional historian. All of us have an interest in exploring the world and understand better the history of how we got where we are today for good or bad.

To give new members an idea of what might be on the World History programme in the Autumn Term here are some of the ideas being proposed by group members:-

Sept and Oct 2025 - Two members of the group are hoping to share the sessions in September and October focussing on three controversial figures in the south of the African Continent’s controversial history - Cecil Rhodes, Ian Smith and Jan Smuts There will be robust but respectful discussion.

Dec - Nigeria - Discussion is likely to be equally robust

The group has not yet agreed whether to stay in Africa  after Christmas  or move to Australia and New Zealand and look among other historical matters, including once again the problems of white European interaction with indigenous peoples.

If you want further information about future dates and programme then please contact Elizabeth Pamplin. The group welcomes new members.
