Ian Bailey, is an experienced speaker and one of our very own Haslemere u3a members!
Ian is a retired water quality research scientist who worked in South Africa for 30 years before retiring to Haslemere where his father was once mayor.
The Drakensberg mountains, 3 times higher than any in the UK, were an ideal training ground for adventure sports like rock and ice climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, paragliding, mountain marathons and Mountain Rescue.
What the talk is about
Ian will give an illustrated talk on his lifelong passion for mountaineering; challenges, hardships, success and disappointments! Firstly, in the South Africa Drakensberg, then expeditions to the Chinese, Pakistan and Indian Himalayas, as well as ascents of the highest peaks in North and South America and Africa of course!
Refreshments
Complimentary tea and coffee will be served after the talk.
